Situated in the heart of St Kilda, 106 Art is an independently run artist's collective consisting of artist studios and a gallery.
Set up in the mid 90's, it is home to a range of visual artists, filmmakers and writers hailing from diverse cultural backgrounds and working across a wide multitude of mediums - including Illustration, sculpture, painting, digital art, mixed media, poetry and film.
17 separately partitioned studios currently host around 23 artists, and the space is managed by a volunteer committee. Some artists are well established and have exhibited widely and been recognised with an array of awards, others are just emerging or are happy to consider themselves hobby artists.
A common gallery space is regularly used for solo and group exhibitions and is available for external hire to local artists, groups and community organisations. The gallery measures approximately 5m x 6m and is well lit. It can also be used for meetings and workshops, as a photographic space or small (not really sound-proof) video studio. We even have photographers and filmmakers on site with lights, backdrops and a green screen if you need assistance.
Please email us with your enquiry via the Contact page.
If you're an artist who is interested in leasing either the gallery or a studio space, please also let us know! We regularly advertise on Creative Spaces Melbourne whenever studios become available, so be sure to keep your eye out there.
